Hazlett takes over his new duties as rector of Christ Episcopal Church; Hazlett comes to Cape Girardeau from Diocese of Pittsburgh, Pa., where he has served as rector of Church of the Advent in Jeannette; originally ordained as Roman Catholic priest, he was ordained in Episcopal Church in 1990.

The Rev. Mike and Trish Woelk are new pastors at Livingway Fellowship; they replace the Rev. Lloyd and Judy Baker, who are pastors at Community Foursquare Church in Raytown; Woelks come to Cape Girardeau from Columbia, where he was associate pastor at Columbia Foursquare Church.

25 years ago: June 21, 1977

Laetrile, although subject fraught with emotion, is little more than manufacturing of myth that is costly in terms of collars, early treatment, and, ultimately, lives, Dr. G. Ray Ridings, radiation oncologist at Southeast Missouri Hospital, told gathering last night; at meeting, sponsored by American Cancer Society, Ridings outlined several types of non-standard cancer treatment that have found popularity during past decades.

Although much of crop was ruined by frigid temperatures earlier this year, first peaches of season are being harvested; while some orchards are expected to produce fair crops, others - including Pioneer Orchards in Jackson - will have no peach crop at all this year because of weather.

50 years ago: June 21, 1952

Appointment of resident, full-time rent-control director for Cape Girardeau appears probable, if survey completed yesterday shows need exists to continue controls in city; Jack Prade and Alec Watts, representatives of regional office of Rent Stabilization in Chicago, conducted rental housing survey and have forwarded their report to Chicago.

Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri, entering their 17th consecutive day of humid 90-degree-plus temperatures, can find slight hope in Weather Bureau's latest forecast; while partly cloudy weather and occasional showers are predicted for central and northern parts of state, all south section is offered is more of same - temperatures near 100-degree mark.

75 years ago: June 21, 1927

Frank W. Morrison, founder and until few years ago owner of Morrison Ice & Fuel Co. in Cape Girardeau, is instantly killed in morning, when his automobile leaves road and overturns on Highway 61 two miles south of Bonne Terre; his grandson, Jack Morrison, 14, escapes serious injury.

Burglars last night ransacked office of Farmers Cooperative Association store at 12 S. Frederick; after rifling cash drawer and desks, they fled without taking anything; all money was in safe, which intruders made unsuccessful effort to open; Manager John Shaul has been unable to determine how burglars entered store, although they left through rear door.
