In a virtual rerun of its meeting two weeks ago, the Cape Girardeau City Council votes down a proposal to use some of the cable television franchise tax revenue to help upgrade programming on the community's cable access channel.

After 17 years as a basement church, the Foursquare Church in Cape Girardeau is constructing a first-story addition, adding a large auditorium with a seating capacity of 225 persons and two offices; the church is at 1222 Bloomfield Rd.

Calvin Vogelsang, a member of Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau, is elected junior vice commander at the state convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Jefferson City.

75 years ago: June 19, 1935

Of the establishments in Cape Girardeau selling 3.2 percent beer, possibly eight or 10 will quit selling next week because of higher taxes levied through the new Missouri liquor-control law.

Workers are cleaning up from the recent river flood; cooperating in the work are the street and health departments, the Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration; while city crews are hosing off Water Street, the greatest task is reconditioning dwellings on the lower southeast side of the city.

100 years ago: June 19, 1910

Mrs. George Drew and children depart for Boston and other points in the East, for a visit to relatives and friends; Mrs. Drew formerly lived at Boston.

The annual baseball game between the bartenders and the brewery nine is staged, with the former slamming the latter; the game is full of sensational plays from the time the first ball is knocked into the waters of Three-Mile Creek until the last home run is made; the score stands 27-18 in favor of the barmen.
