A program to provide psychological counseling to Vietnam-era veterans is underway at Saint Francis Mental Health Center in Cape Girardeau; funding for the program is through the VA and will be administered by its medical center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Saint Francis' facility will serve veterans in Cape Girardeau, Scott and Bollinger counties.

As the result of a split vote, Cape Girardeau County Court blocks the proposed development of a mobile home park near Klaus Park.

50 years ago: June 14, 1957

A site between Normal Avenue and College Hill Place in Cape Girardeau, extending eastward from the drive adjacent to Albert Hall, has been selected by the board of regents as the site for a women's dormitory facility and a central dining room and social center; while it isn't known how much space will be required, it will probably mean the demolition of the Leuer and Kurka houses which were acquired by the State College several months ago.

Only a few flags are flown in Cape Girardeau in observance of Flag Day, established by Congress to mark the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.

75 years ago: June 14, 1932

A petition is directed to the State Highway Department by the Cape Girardeau County Court asking for a survey on the proposed farm-to-market route from Cape Girardeau to Neelys Landing.

William L. Limbaugh, an insurance agent of Cape Girardeau, loses his left heel and a portion of the foot shortly before noon, when he accidentally shoots himself while squirrel hunting near Sedgewickville, Mo.

100 years ago: June 14, 1907

The Cape Liquor Co., will open for business tomorrow in the room recently vacated by the Madden Sisters' millinery store in Cape Girardeau; it will handle wines and liquors in packages and will not serve drinks.

The Daily Republican has just completed the big task of placing its presses on concrete foundations in order to make them work perfectly; this office has just installed three additional presses and now has the largest and most extensively equipped printing office between St. Louis and Memphis.
