The Rev. Paul B. Catterton was appointed associate pastor at Centenary United Methodist Church at close of Missouri East Annual Conference last week in Columbia; Catterton received bachelor's degree in ministry from Oakland City College in 1981 and master of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1985.
The Rev. Walter J. Keisker of Jackson was one of three people who received doctor of divinity degree at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis on May 28; Keisker, who has been affiliated with St. Paul Lutheran Church more than 50 years, teaches Sunday School and weekday Bible classes.

Cape Girardeau County can expect to spend more than $50,000 for independent audit being imposed under new regulations of Federal Office of Revenue Sharing, says county Auditor H. Weldon Macke; federal regulations require all local governments receiving federal revenue-sharing funds to be audited for 1977, 1978 or 1979, to determine whether those dollars are being spent in accordance with guidelines.
Chaffee, Mo. -- Public charge of public harassment and intimidation by group called "Citizens for Betterment of Chaffee Police Department" has brought down-the-line denial by city police officials; Lowell G. Spane of rural Chaffee, spokesman for group, complains that department is "riding roughshod over everybody and we're getting tired of it."

All-Missouri Air Tour, expected to include about 50 planes, begins arriving early in afternoon at Municipal Airport; tour, record mass flight of civil aircraft, is being held in commemoration of golden anniversary of plane flight; among 150 to 160 tourists in statewide excursion will be three men from this area: Richard Hirsch of Cape Girardeau, Frank Mabyr of Commerce and John Seesing, local member of tour committee.
Gideon, Mo. -- Cooperation of residents in response to plea from their board of aldermen has alleviated water shortage, but situation still remains critical in case of major fire at periods of peak consumption; municipal government appealed yesterday to residents to curb their use of water during current heat wave.
75 years ago: June 13, 1928
James Mathis, 34, employee of A.H. Gerhardt and Son, contractors, narrowly escaped death Tuesday afternoon when he plunged 40 feet to pavement of Fountain street at new Marquette Hotel, when cable on hoist on which he was riding broke; he suffered no broken bones nor internal injuries as was first feared.
Herman Weaks, superintendent of schools at Deering in Pemiscot County, has been elected superintendent at Jackson; he was chosen over more than 50 other applicants for position.
