Philip H. Steck, 70, a figure in Cape Girardeau municipal government for many years, and more recently a contract mail messenger with the post office, dies at his home in the morning; Steck served a period of 16 years on the Cape Girardeau City Council between 1930, the first year he was elected, and 1954 when he was in his last term of office.
Cape Girardeau postmaster Nat M. Snider has been named chairman of the finance division of the Democratic National Committee for Cape Girardeau and has been asked to organize Roosevelt "nominators" here.
At a meeting yesterday, the Cape Girardeau City Council signed a Works Progress Administration application for funds to reconstruct historic Fort D, purchased Monday by the Louis K. Juden Post of the American Legion from Mrs. Mary Giboney Houck; the application seeks $17,208 to rebuild the Civil War fort.
