If U.S. Department of Transportation concurs with recommendation of city council, city will have commercial air service to Memphis, Tenn., in addition to St. Louis; at joint meeting yesterday of council and Airport Advisory Board, council unanimously recommended proposal by Lone Star Airlines of Fort Worth, Texas, to provide air service among Cape Girardeau, Memphis and St. Louis.
Chief justice of Missouri Supreme Court, Edward D. "Chip" Robertson, presided over lowest court in land yesterday, in attempt to set people straight about state court system; Robertson, who presided over Cape Girardeau Municipal Court, said he wanted to show people that justice system is interested in accused's side of story, even when it comes to speeding tickets.

It is announced that Msgr. Joseph Huels, who has been pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral for 10 years, will step down at his own request, to become associate pastor of parish on Aug. 1; he will be succeeded by the Rev. Joseph Gosche, pastor of Sacred Heart parish in Dexter.
East Cape Girardeau, Ill. - Proposed lake to serve as water supply for East Cape Girardeau, McClure and Gale could become reality within two years if adequate financing is obtained; 60-foot dam across Sexton Creek, about two miles northeast of Gale, would create 600-acre lake which would serve as both water supply for surrounding communities and recreational center.
50 years ago: June 10, 1952
Quick thinking by his wife is credited by T.B. Wills, 73, carpenter of Daisy, with saving his life when bolt of lightning strikes him during storm at 3:30 a.m., igniting his night clothing and rendering him unconscious; Wills is struck as he closes bedroom window.
Cape Girardeau will be scene of much political activity this week, as leading Senate and gubernatorial candidates of both parties come here for state encampment of Veterans of Foreign wars; no rallies or speeches have been arranged, but candidates are coming to Cape Girardeau to shake hands with as many as possible of thousands of VFW and Ladies' Auxiliary delegates, visitors and guests.
75 years ago: June 10, 1927
City council members invite representatives of clubs and organizations in Cape Girardeau to attend conference Tuesday at which proposal of Missouri Utilities Co. to build new $176,000 waterworks plant here will be presented by company officials.
Mississippi River, on its latest rampage, is falling at Cape Girardeau; reaching crest of 35.6 feet late yesterday, river was stationary during night and this morning begins slow recession.
