25 years ago: June 1, 1980

A rededication service is held in the morning at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills; the church was originally dedicated May 30, 1880, according to the Rev. H. Sylvester, pastor.

Southeast Missouri State University president Bill W. Stacy told 353 Central High School graduating seniors Friday night that they "have been winners"; Stacy was the commencement speaker at ceremonies held in the new high school gymnasium; valedictorian was Laura Cozean and salutatorian was Wendy Hager.

50 years ago: June 1, 1955

Donnie Kenyon, 6 1/2 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Kenyon, is pronounced dead at Southeast Missouri Hospital about two hours after he is taken unconscious from a farm pond at the family home on Gordonville Road; he accidentally fell into the pond, which normally isn't deep, but had swelled somewhat by recent rains.

State College enrollment continues to climb, reaching 1,073; enrollment of summer term students will continue the remainder of the week.

75 years ago: June 1, 1930

The Lutheran congregation at Egypt Mills celebrates the 50th anniversary of the dedication of its house of worship with all-day services; during the morning. Professor E.C. Weis of Concordia, Mo., has charge of the service, and in the afternoon the outdoor service is conducted by the Rev. A.M. Lohmann of Perryville, Mo., former pastor of the congregation.

The revival at Red Star Baptist Church, under the direction of the Rev. W.G. Winans of Little Rock, Ark., enters its third week with the largest crowd to hear the evangelist thus far; an estimated 2,500 people attend the service.

100 years ago: June 1, 1905

The Rev. R.S. Brown and family leave on the boat in the afternoon for Lynnville, Tenn., where they will make their home; about two years ago, the Rev. Brown came here from Lynnville and took the pastorate of the Presbyterian Church; since then the church has made great headway.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Albert on South Spanish Street was the scene last night of a happy party; Helen Albert, their daughter, who recently returned from a school in the East, entertained about 25 of the prominent young people of the city at dancing.
