Representatives of Delta, Chaffee and other towns southwest of Cape Girardeau airport were treated to preview yesterday of U.S. Navy Blue Angels, scheduled to perform this weekend at Cape Aviation Days; Navy Flight Demonstration Squad's only two-seat F/A-18 Hornet performed aerial acrobatics over area, as Lt. Cmdr. Dave Stewart gave rides to media representatives.
Local NAACP has proposed that Cape Girardeau City Council pass laws, such as march permit measure and "dehooding" ordinance, in effort to counter possible Ku Klux Klan rally next month; leaflets were circulated earlier this year advertising "white-pride" demonstration on June 13 at city hall.

No immediate settlement is expected to be reached in contract dispute which led to strike by heavy equipment operators throughout Missouri; dozens of highway, bridge, sewer and other public construction projects have been shut down since members of three Operating Engineers locals in state imposed strike on Monday.
There is joy in Cape Girardeau; Southeast Missouri State University's baseball team, battling odds since 0-3 league start, puts wraps on MIAA championship by sweeping Lincoln University, 11-2 and 12-2, while Maryville splits at Kirksville, and Indian track and field crew, hampered by injuries, captures MIAA thinclad title; on prep scene, Central High Tigresses emerge Class AA track and field champions, while Bengals win SEMO Conference thinclad title.
50 years ago: May 7, 1952
Ground was broken yesterday at South West End boulevard and Bloomfield street for building in modern church architecture to house congregation of Church of Christ, which has been conducting its religious services at 421a Broadway; construction was placed under way by Burton J. Gerhardt Construction Corp., on contract award of $29,973; church was designed by architect Harold W. Long.
Tokyo - Missourian, who lost his life to save those of two comrades, has been posthumously awarded Congressional Medal of Honor; he is Pvt. Billie G. Kanell, 20, of Poplar Bluff, who became 47th winner of nation's highest award in Korean war; his parents are Mr. and Mrs. John W. Kanell of Poplar Bluff.
75 years ago: May 7, 1927
Emergency fund of $75,000, to be used in temporary rehabilitation of inundated farm areas of Southeast Missouri, has been set aside by Red Cross, it is announced at relief headquarters at Memphis; money will be used to purchase feed for livestock and seed for planting.
Severe earth tremor, that continues intermittently for five minutes, shakes entire section of Southeast Missouri early in morning, but causes no damage, so far as can be ascertained; quake is felt in Cape Girardeau shortly after 2:30 a.m. and is sufficiently strong to rouse residents from their slumbers.
