The Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau is without a home; the Army's main building at 215 Broadway, which houses its office space, meal facilities, activities center and chapel, is literally falling down; Capt. Ralph Ashcraft, corps officer in charge of the Salvation Army here, says the building is uninhabitable.

Dr. C. Neal Davis, who most recently was vice president and dean of development and public relations at Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, Mo., has been named director of development at Southeast Missouri State University.

50 years ago: May 6, 1960

The Cape Girardeau School Board announces it has set May 24 as the date for a special election for a second vote on a $1,650,000 bond issue to erect a new junior high school building; a similar proposal was defeated April 5.

The $85,000 bond issue voted to help build a new municipal building to house the Jackson city hall and public library was sold by the city council yesterday; the winning bidder was Milburn, Cochran & Co. of Kansas City.

75 years ago: May 6, 1935

A stumbling block in the form of an objection by the Frisco Railroad has delayed, at least for the time being, the plans of Cape Girardeau officials and of county Federal Emergency Relief Administration supervisor Mac Hunter to extend and improve South Main Street from William Street to a connection with Maple Avenue south of the St. Vincent's College property; Frisco owns a right of way of 60 feet west of its tracks along where the street is now and objects to any improvement being made.

Julien N. Friant receives a telegram saying a Civilian Conservation Corps drainage camp will be established at Allenville.

100 years ago: May 6, 1910

The Rev. A.M. Ross, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, has gone to Marble Hill, Mo., to attend a meeting of the Ministers Institute, before which body he will deliver an address; Ross will return in time to occupy his pulpit here on Sunday.

Henry Brinkopf, the census enumerator for Randol Township, completed his work on Wednesday; he is probably the first of Cape Girardeau County enumerators to finish.
