ALTENBURG, Mo. -- A morning service marks the 125th anniversary of Trinity Lutheran Church here; speaker at the celebration is the Rev. Walter C. Loeber of Radio Station KFUO in St. Louis; Loeber, a fifth-generation pastor, is a descendant of the late Rev. G.H. Loeber, first pastor of Trinity Church.

An all-day celebration marks the 100th birthday of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church; former pastors of the church are speakers: the Rev. O.R. Burnham of Kansas City, Missouri; the Rev. T.R. Lewis of Piedmont, Missouri, and the Rev. Lloyd Barker of Memphis.

1939

It is estimated that construction of the new five-mile county road to connect Pocahontas and Oak Ridge and intersecting Highway 25 will be started in a month or six weeks; the road will be graded and graveled by the county under its county-wide road improvement program, with WPA labor being used.

Information is being widely sought to establish the identity of persons who set off explosives in the diversion channel near the mouth of Crooked Creek, not far from Whitewater; the charge Friday night killed hundreds of large and small fish.

A large congregation gathers at Academic Hall in the morning to hear the baccalaureate sermon of J. Layton Masuze, the distinguished St. Louis divine; the audience is largely composed of Normal School students, many of whom are decorated with the square black head-pieces and flowing black robes of their classes.

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- The Cape Girardeau Capahas win from the home team in the Southeast Missouri Baseball League, 1-0; the attendance is smaller than had been expected, but this is blamed on the extreme hot weather.
