Jackson resident Myra Litzelfelner Weiss has established a $12,000 trust fund endowing a perpetual scholarship in nursing at Southeast Missouri State University.

50 years ago: May 27, 1960

Memorial services for David Heidbreder, who was a pupil at Lorimier School and a member of Cub Pack 14 at the time of his death on Scout Sunday, Feb. 7, are held at the school; a new American flag, Cub Pack flag, stands and staffs are presented the school in memory of the youth; they were purchased with money from a memorial fund made up by friends of the boy and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Heidbreder.

Two hundred and seven Central High School seniors, dressed in traditional caps and gowns, receive their diplomas during an evening commencement event at Houck Field House.

75 years ago: May 27, 1935

Damage of approximately $13,000 is done in the morning when fire wipes out the Campbell Mattress Mfg. Corp. and the two-story brick building housing it at 39 S. Spanish St.; the blaze starts under conditions bordering on the mysterious.

Tribute was paid to the memory of those who had a part in bringing the Civil War and other wars to an honorable end at Memorial Day services conducted yesterday at Old Lorimier Cemetery; Judge Lee L. Bowman delivered a brief address.

100 years ago: May 27, 1910

The Cape Girardeau School Board yesterday considered the expansion of Lorimier School; the plans and specifications submitted by the contractor for a two-story addition, the installation of new lavatories and a new plant was deemed too expensive; the board then instructed the building committee to refigure the costs using a single-story addition.

It is said the lower floor of Dr. M.A. Grissom's new building on Broadway has been leased by a photographer for a term of five years.
