The Army Corps of Engineers has approved development of an industrial park along Highway 74 now that developers have agreed to establish a new wetlands area at the site; the wetlands area will encompass six to seven acres and replace a previous wetlands that was destroyed by the development.
Assessor Jerry Reynolds presents the county commission with his 1988 real estate and personal property tax books, showing the assessed valuation of Cape Girardeau County increased about $13 million this year, bringing the county above the $400 million mark for the first time.

H.G. Simpson of Charleston, Mo., while in Cape Girardeau yesterday, announced that deeds to 930 acres of land in the vicinity of the Big Oak in the south end of Mississippi County had been secured and the land paid for; all that is necessary for the establishment of a state park is final approval by the state.
Howard Frye has filed with the county clerk at Jackson as a candidate for the Republican nomination for state representative; Frye, an attorney, is a brother of J. Grant Frye.

Allen, Geraldine Tallent, Mae A. Gangel, Audrey E. Berry, Ina B. Dunn, Paul F. Pape and Moses F. Foster.
At the last inspection of the Missouri National Guard of Cape Girardeau and Jackson, the companies failed to pass Lieut. Col. Blatchford's rigid inspection and, as a consequence, the two companies have been mustered out of the state guard.
