1964

Law enforcement officers continue to try to locate a young man who allegedly tried to pull a 15-year-old schoolgirl into his car early yesterday morning; the incident happened while the girl was waiting for a school bus near her home a mile west of Gordonville.

The State Conservation Commission reports indicate a large number of fish are being killed in sections of the Bootheel, where aerial spraying for army worms is in progress; the spraying may have some dangerous effects for humans, too, by indirect means; apparently, some people are eating the poisoned fish.

1939

The Rev. H.F. Gerecke, a native of Cape Girardeau County, who is executive secretary for the St. Louis Lutheran City Mission, speaks at the annual Mission Day festival at Hanover Lutheran Church.

Dr. R.H. Daugherty, former pastor of Centenary Methodist Church and now pastor of the Humphreys Memorial Church at Charleston, West Virginia, preaches at the morning worship service at Centenary; Dr. and Mrs. Daugherty came here last week to attend the graduation of their son, Jack, from the Teachers College and remained as guests at the home of Mrs. M.E. Leming.

1914

The Chenue jewelry store, for years Main Street's most popular jewelry house, has been purchased by William H. Campbell of Evansville, Illinois; Al Chenue ran the store for many years, his wife taking over when he became disabled; Mrs. Chenue will retire.

Mrs. Ben Milster comes down from Jefferson Barracks for a short visit with her father, G.V. Rogers; her husband, who has been teaching school near Jefferson Barracks, will join her in a few days.
