GRASSY, Mo. -- Several hundred people attend the Bluegrass Music Festival here; the event has been held annually at the Arrowhead Campground in Grassy for more than 25 years.
A special judge has been appointed to hear a mounting number of tax protests filed against the city by three Cape Girardeau businesses; Circuit Judge Fred W. Copeland of the 34th Judicial Circuit has been appointed by the Missouri Supreme Court to handle the case, which involves lawsuits filed by Midamerica Hotels Corp., RIC Inc. and West Park Bowling Lanes Inc.
Earth-moving equipment begins work on the site for the Lee-Rowan Co. branch factory at Jackson after the signing of a contract and a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday; the first gold-plated shovel of dirt for the 50,000-square-foot factory was turned by Desmond Lee, president of the St. Louis firm.
Right of way has been acquired to permit the extension of South West End Boulevard from its present dead end through to Highway 74, says George Penzel, the engineer for the Cape Special Road District.

F.F. Braun and brother, the hustling Haarig grocers, have leased the room in the Merten's building, corner of Broadway and Sprigg Street, and are having it remodeled for a grocery store; it should open around June 1.
