A second expansion of the Cape Girardeau enterprise zone to include the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority, the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport and the Greater Cape Girardeau Industrial Park on Nash Road has been approved by the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents will be asked Monday to decide whether the university should move to Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and seek membership in the Ohio Valley Conference.

1963

The County Court awards a contract for air conditioning the Common Pleas courtroom in Cape Girardeau to B&J Refrigeration Co. of Cape Girardeau; Leon Jansen, representing the firm, submits a bid of $5,540.

J.S.N. Farquhar announces the sale of his business, J.S.N. Farquhar Lumber Co., to Donald K. Jensen of Springfield, Mo.; Jensen will operate for a time here, before moving operations to Springfield.

1938

With Dr. Henry J. Gerling, superintendent of the St. Louis public schools, is the speaker at commencement exercises held at Teachers College in the morning; 141 college graduates receive their degrees, while 29 College High School seniors receive their diplomas.

Two thieves surprised in the Stubbs establishment on West Broadway at 2:30 a.m. by two officers in a police patrol car escape on foot, as one of the officers shoots at them; about 100 pennies are scattered by the thieves as they flee.

1913

The commercial club at Fornfelt has decided to build a new road to the river; when it's completed, a new river landing will be necessary, as the road will miss Mannings Landing, the present river terminal of the public road; the town's businessmen and merchants who ship and receive freight by steamboat will build a warehouse at the landing and appoint a man to take care of it.

C.H. Walker, who has been in Los Angeles for the last three years, is here visiting his mother, Mrs. R.T. Giboney.
