The Cape Girardeau Federation of Teachers, an affiliate of the Missouri Federation of Teachers, was chartered at a ceremony held yesterday at the Ramada Inn; president of the local chapter is Robert Gau; Bill Springer is vice president.

Rich Meyer, a senior at University High School, was named winner of the district Youth of the Year competition at the annual banquet of the Breakfast Exchange Club; he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Meyer of Cape Girardeau.

50 years ago: May 15, 1957

Safe-crackers trundled a 1,000-pound safe from the front to the rear of the Ward's Big Star Super Market in Cape Girardeau last night, rolled it into a walk-in vegetable cooler and, in immunity from detection, peeled it for a take of several hundred dollars.

A helicopter for the use of the air wing of the 140th Infantry, Missouri National Guard was brought to the municipal airport yesterday from the air section at Warrensburg, Mo.; the craft will be used by Capt. George Staley for training purposes.

75 years ago: May 15, 1932

Unusually large crowds are being attracted to the evangelistic meeting of Emmanuel Baptist Church at South Benton and Locust streets in Cape Girardeau; the tent there has been filled comfortably each night with a crowd of several hundred persons.

Dr. Marion N. Waldrip, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, is scheduled to deliver three commencement addresses this week to district high school graduating classes; Wednesday he will be at Charleston, Mo.; Thursday at Flat River, Mo., and Friday at Bonne Terre, Mo.

100 years ago: May 15, 1907

The boat carrying the Inland Waterway Commission, which was supposed to dock overnight at Cape Girardeau, failed to arrive here because of delays by storms; it passes the city this morning, but doesn't stop.

The Madden Sisters entertained many of their friends at their new store yesterday with an opening display of mid-summer millinery; their new place, which is on Main street in Cape Girardeau, next to the St. Charles Hotel, is as pretty as can be.
