25 years ago: May 14, 1982

After nearly 58 years spent caring for thousands of area residents, Cape Girardeau osteopath physician Dr. M. Marguerite Fuller is stepping aside; today marks the final day of her practice here, one which began in 1924.

About 700 Missouri Jaycees and their wives are expected to attend a three-day state convention which begins today at the Holiday Inn in Cape Girardeau.

50 years ago: May 14, 1957

Walter Funk, National Guard warrant officer, and Al Sander, manager of the Colonial Tavern, say they are certain it was a tornado and not just a windstorm which smashed through the northwest corner of Cape Girardeau yesterday; Funk narrowly missed serious injury, when a huge elm at the Brennecke service station on Kingshighway fell just six feet from the motor of his car as he braked to a stop.

After 10 years in business, the Dippold Bros. Mfg. Co. on Highway 61 has been dissolved; Richard Dippold will continue in business at that location as Ideal Home Improvement Co., doing kitchen and bath installations; his brother, Hugo Dippold, and family have moved to Tucson, Ariz.

75 years ago: May 14, 1932

Manager H.B. Newman of the Missouri Utilities Co. says the new water plant at Cape Rock in Cape Girardeau has been placed in operation; a formal opening to allow for public inspection of the plant is being planned for the near future.

C.C. Eddleman, constable of Cape Girardeau Township, announces himself as a candidate for the Republican nomination for sheriff of Cape Girardeau County; he has held his present office for 10 months and prior to that was deputy sheriff of the county for one year.

100 years ago: May 14, 1907

The Normal School has sent out invitations to the commencement exercises, which will be held May 18 to 22; the main address will be given the final day of the exercises by Dr. Henry Stiles Bradley of St. Louis.

Having heard he was buried in Cape Girardeau last week, Joe Leist of Kelso, Mo., is inquiring about the unusual proceeding; the body found on the Thebes Bridge Terminal railroad tracks last Thursday was identified as Leist.
