Purchase of Colonial Manner, Broadway and Kingshighway, is announced by new owners, brothers Clarence and Randy Hoskins, who came to Cape Girardeau several months ago and took over food facilities at Town House Motel; Colonial Manor was purchased from James Withers, who acquired it several years ago from Al Sander and has since operated all or portions of facility.
Gov. Joseph P. Teasdale announces that Small Business Administration has declared six Southeast Missouri counties which sustained severe damage in March 27 flash flood a disaster area; counties are Cape Girardeau, Madison, Perry, Reynolds, Ste. Genevieve and Stoddard.

With 10-3 victory over Jackson High Indians, Cape Girardeau Central High Tigers advance to championship play of Southeast Missouri High Baseball Tournament; Tigers and Sikeston Bulldogs will meet in regional championship for right to represent this section in state tournament at St. Louis May 22-24.
Ground is being leveled at site between Kingshighway and Broadview north of Colonial Tavern; lot is owned by Oscar Windisch, who says he plans to build on site, but his plans aren't entirely definite.
75 years ago: May 10, 1927
Poplar Bluff - Heart of Poplar Bluff is in ruins after devastating tornado yesterday killed 74 and injured 300 people; with practically every building in downtown section either demolished or partially wrecked, city counts its loss in millions of dollars.
Soon after incomplete reports of tornado disaster at Poplar Bluff reached here yesterday, Cape Girardeau immediately mobilized its relief forces to give aid to stricken town; answering appeal for doctors and nurses, special train over Frisco line left here at 6:48 p.m. and reached Bluff shortly before midnight; answering call for aid were Drs. D.H. Hope, J.W. Berry, G.B. Schulz, Paul Williams, W.R. Schoen, N.F. Chostner, C.A.W. Zimmermann and John D. Porterfield; nurses, Emma Faust, Mrs. D.H. Hope, Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Martha Barnhardt, and Daisy Albert; and William E. Leming, Louis Hecht and Renfro Gibbs.
