Members of the 155th Engineer Group of the Missouri National Guard board two C-130 transport planes at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport in the morning, en route to Fort Ord, Calif., for a two-week training session; the group will be training with the 7th Infantry Division.

H. Kenneth Wangelin, known for his quick wit and common-sense approach to justice, was honored yesterday; nearly 200 fellow judges, members of the bar association, friends and associates of the late judge gathered for a memorial at the federal courthouse in Cape Girardeau.

J. Ronald Fischer, connected in business with his father at Fischer's Market on West End Boulevard, was elected president of the Cape Girardeau Jaycees last night; Fischer defeated Paul Landgraf in a close election for the right to succeed retiring president Clarence Lee Shirrell.

D.D. Cleeton, president of the SEMO District Fair Association, announces the entertainment for this year's fair; headliners include Lonzo and Oscar of "Grand Ole Opry" fame, Faron Young and his Deputies and Joe Schirmer, known as "Mr. Banjo."

Winter climaxed its comeback to Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri overnight by spreading a one-inch snow blanket over the landscape, sending the mercury to 31 degrees and possibly doing more damage to the fruit crop; warmer, fair weather is forecast for the weekend.

Charles Pat Englehart of Lutesville, Mo., local star athlete, has received word from the management of the St. Louis Browns to report to the Mayfield, Ky., baseball club of the Kitty League for spring training beginning next week.

John Rouse and Harmon Loeffel were given the contracts for the improvement of two divisions of Sprigg Street at the city council meeting last night; the first contract is to pave Sprigg Street from Themis Street to Good Hope Street; the other division is from Good Hope Street to Jefferson Avenue.

The Vogelsang Bros., contractors, begins the final work on George McBride's new Idan-Ha Hotel on Broadway in the morning; indications are that it will be ready for a grand opening when the Elks convention is held in May.
