Storm water troubles along Cape LaCroix Creek last week revived in Cape Girardeau City Council yesterday the frequently discussed plan of straightening the hairpin curves and twists of the stream.

In line with similar action on a nation-wide basis, Cape Girardeau Postmaster A.S. Reed is directed by the post office department to dispense with mail delivery on Saturday; there will be no carrier delivery, either in the city or on rural routes.

75 years ago: April 9, 1932

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- Two youthful, unmasked revolvers enter the Bank of Fredericktown at 12:30 p.m., force bank president Carl Schwaner and a bookkeeper, Pauline Sonderman, into the vault, before rifling the cash drawers and safe; they escape with about $2,000, going north along Highway 61, pursued by a posse headed by Highway Trooper Howard J. Turnbull.

The final showing of the Passion Play by the Freiburg Players is presented at the Teachers College in the evening; playing Christ is Georg Fassnacht Jr. of Freiburg; his father played the part of the Savior before him and is now portraying the part of the betraying disciple, Judas Iscariot.

100 years ago: April 9, 1907

Sheriff Ben Gockel has purchased a new hack and has put it in service between Cape Girardeau and Jackson.

The superintendent of the Roberts, Johnson & Rand shoe factory arrived in Cape Girardeau last night from St. Louis; today they are making ready to start construction on the new factory in the north end of the city; several carloads of material have already arrived for the factory, and others will follow immediately.
