Incumbent Dr. Patrick Ruopp and newcomer Harold Haas won seats on the Cape Girardeau Board of Education yesterday, edging out Jacklyn Clark, Dr. Robert Fox, Howard G. Bock and John Eck.

The procedure for apprehending highway speeders who have been clocked by radar has been changed, it is reported by Sgt. Glenn Lampley, in charge of the Cape Girardeau zone of the Highway Patrol; it is now necessary for the operator of the radar car to pursue and apprehend the speeding driver himself instead of radioing ahead to an inceptor as in the past.

A couple hundred teens, members of judging teams from district high schools, pit their judgments against each other in agricultural contests at the State College; winners will go on to compete in state contests at the University of Missouri April 25-27.

Setting a record for number of ballots in a municipal election, Cape Girardeau voters yesterday chose Edward L. Drum as mayor and incumbent Philip H. Steck, Paul R. Brooks and Frank Batchelor as commissioners; there were 5,788 votes cast for mayor, which was 465 more than two years ago.

Cape Girardeau School District patrons at Tuesday's election approved the school operating levy of $1 on the $100 assessed valuation and elected attorney E.L. McClintock and Dr. I.W. Upshaw, a dentist, to three-year terms on the board; McClintock is finishing a first term on the school board.

The Rev. Lincoln McConnell has accepted an invitation from the Pastors' Alliance of this city to hold an evangelical campaign here through the month of June; another big tabernacle will be built; it will be located where it was several years ago, at Bellevue and Ellis streets.

John Cauble, 76, the lovable old character who for years has vended popcorn and peanuts at the corner of Main and Themis streets, died unexpectedly last night at the close of a busy day; he died at his home on South Spanish Street.
