25 years ago: April 6, 1984

Ward 10 in Cape Girardeau will be eliminated before the August primary to comply with state law concerning voting in state representative districts, said County Clerk Rodney Miller; in addition, parts of several other city wards will be moved to comply with the law.

Lenco Inc., a Jackson-based manufacturing firm, has been sold to former state representative Jerry Ford; the company has been held in trust since the death of founder Paul Leonard several years ago.

50 years ago: April 6, 1959

The Cape Girardeau City Council handles several rezoning matters; one request, for rezoning three tracts on U.S. 61 from one-family to industrial, is postponed until April 27; the property involves sites of Missouri Electric Works and Simpson Oil Co., and a tract owned by Burton J. Gerhardt.

County Collector Bill Rose can't be required to pay rent for a branch office in Common Pleas Court, according to the attorney general; before a transfer of half interest in the courthouse from the city to the county, a city council member had suggested Rose pay rent for the quarters.

75 years ago: April 6, 1934

Tom Scott, deputy warden of the Missouri state penitentiary, has been granted a temporary leave of absence by the prison board; while in Cape Girardeau, Scott announces he will be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for collector in Scott County.

Guy A. Baynham, manager of the local yard of the C.E. Robinson Lumber Co., has been elected president of the Cape Girardeau Optimist Club; he succeeds Clarence J. Strom.

100 years ago: April 6, 1909

The Normal School baseballers gather to organize the team for the coming season; Tom Collins, catcher, returns from last year, as do Clarence O'Neal, Roy Owens, E.A. Fullbright and G.C. Vandover; new to the team will be Hugh Evans, Vester Berryman, Albert Bernard and Pearl Storm.

Ran Parmenter has sold his team and farming implements to John Goodson from Cape Girardeau and moved to the house of Mr. Clippard west of Oak Ridge; Parmenter is an expert carpenter.
