With two sitting councilmen contending for office of Cape Girardeau mayor, experience won out yesterday as two-term Councilman Al Spradling III defeated Melvin Gateley.

Two Cape Girardeau dentists were elected to seats on Cape Girardeau Board of Education Tuesday; incumbent Patrick Ruopp was re-elected to fifth term, and Robert G. Fox was elected to his first term.

Lawsuit seeking to have zoning for West Park Mall declared void was filed yesterday by developers of competing Westborough Mall.

Rehabilitation Department at St. Francis Medical Center has been named in honor of Sister M. Virgilia Beikler, long-time administrator who has served nursing profession almost half century.

Cape Girardeau County's drought survey is rained out; survey, on few farms at instigation of Conservation Commission of Missouri, is for purpose of determining effect of drought on county wildlife.

75 years ago: April 6, 1929

If Legislature adopts recommendation of its appropriation committee, State Teachers College at Cape Girardeau will receive $448,500 for its support during next biennial period.

Cape Girardeau has been admitted to membership in Hard Roads League of Southern Illinois; all that remains to be done is to file entry fee to guarantee town having baseball team in this fast-stepping aggregation.
