Death and destruction were brought by a tornado that ripped through the Southeast Missouri towns of Advance, Randles and Sturdivant yesterday afternoon; dead is Mrs. Pearl Macallister, 75, of Randles, who suffered fatal injuries when the tornado ripped through her house and she was struck by flying debris; also injured at Randles was her son, Oscar, 52, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tweedy.

Fire, which seriously threatened to destroy Eisleben Lutheran Church in Illmo last night, heavily damaged the church's tall steeple; an ancient set of bells and clocks were ruined in the blaze.

Construction of the Wappapello, Mo., dam on the St. Francis River in Wayne County will have no effect on the site occupied by Camp Lewallen, the summer camp of the Southeast Missouri Area Council of Boy Scouts, says Scout Executive Frank M. Chase.

Tillman Anderson announces the sale of his private horse and mule sales barn on Highway 61 to W.H. Campbell; the transaction includes the real estate and business, also a small quantity of feed, but no livestock; Campbell will continue operating a private sales business there, with W.B. McCracken associated with him.

1913

Work on the actual digging of the ditches that are to clear the Little River Drainage District of its sluggish floods is expected to begin this morning; a subcontractor named Hercey has a group of men operating his dredge boat at a point a short distance from Grays Ridge, Mo., which is five miles west of Morehouse, Mo.

Al Brinkopf, who has the contract furnishing the entire new Idan-ha Hotel, is the busiest man in town; the beds, dressers, chairs, etc., have all arrived and are being installed.
