Faculty Senate at Southeast Missouri State University needs to address tenure, says group's newly elected chairman; economics professor Terry Sutton, who was elected chairman Wednesday, says he expects senate to consider tenure issue in next academic year; he and other members are concerned tenure decisions are being made more on whether they have published research rather than on classroom teaching.

Site preparation for new building to house operations of Ocean Plastics is expected to begin this week in Jackson; Groundbreaking ceremonies were held last week with members of Jackson Industrial Development Co., city council and officials of plastics firm participating; new, 40,000-square-foot plant will be built on tract just south of Lee-Rowan Co. at Highway 61 and 25.
Addition to St. Francis Medical Center now being completed has been named LaRoy R. Roper Pavilion in honor of hospital's first and only board president; Roper, president of United Oil Co., was president of original St. Francis Hospital board when it was organized nine years ago and for four years has had dual role of president of hospital corporation board and St. Francis Medical Center Board.
50 years ago: April 30, 1953
Rare southeasterly windstorm, reaching velocities of hurricane strength, lashed Cape Girardeau last night, blowing down several trees and disrupting electrical service in number of sections of town; no actual measurement of wind was made at height of storm, but similar gale struck St. Louis at about same time with velocities that were 100 miles per hour.
For at least fourth time in its 46-year history, Broadway School is being formally offered for sale; whether current effort will be any more successful than others depends on size of bids and action of school board; school was built in 1906 and was offered for sale first time in 1925, after it had become obsolete in school system.
75 years ago: April 30, 1928
Remainder of forms are being torn from sixth floor and roof of Marquette Hotel and exterior brick work on structure will be completed in three week, says contractor A.H. Gerhardt; failure of carload of terra cotta to arrive on time delayed progress of exterior work; according to Gerhardt, about a half million bricks will be used in structure, along with several hundreds of thousands of tile.
Contract for paving of four blocks is let to Tidd and Pimm of Hutchinson, Kan., at meeting of Jackson council; paving includes streets on three sides of square and one block on High street; total amount of bid is $18,273.23.
