With the snip of a ceremonial ribbon, Dempster Hall, on the south edge of the Southeast Missouri State University campus, was officially dedicated yesterday.

A Cuba, Mo., lawyer yesterday became the third candidate to seek the Democratic nomination for Congress in the new Eighth District; John Woodward, 47, will face Jerry Ford of Cape Girardeau and Frank X. Hastings of Bloomsdale, Mo., in the August primary.

Construction has been completed on the new Apostolic Pentecostal Church on Farmington avenue in Jackson; the auditorium seats 300, and there are Sunday school rooms, a kitchen and rest rooms in the basement; pastor of the church is the Rev. J.L. Cathcart.

Forty-nine members of the Cape Girardeau County Historical Society celebrated the 30th anniversary of the group with a dinner last night at Trinity Lutheran School auditorium.

Hotel and restaurant owners in Cape Girardeau take time between conventions to estimate that convention and court visitors to this city during the past three weeks left $30,000 behind them; the convention of Missouri Masons followed close on the heels of two weeks of Federal Court.

Frank A. Lowry, Cape Girardeau city counselor, announces his candidacy on the Republican ticket for the nomination for judge of Common Pleas Court; in addition, former mayor James A. Barks says he will run for the Democratic nomination for the same post.

Mayor W.C. Patton doesn't lay aside his municipal work, even though it is Sunday; he is busy for a considerable part of the afternoon attending to complaints made against the saloon at the corner of Broadway and Frederick Street; the mayor seems serious in his statements that he will put a stop to the "street walking and Sunday opening of saloons."

Protestant ministers in Cape Girar-deau announce plans for a tabernacle meeting that will begin on May 26; the Rev. Lincoln McConnell, the noted evangelist of Atlanta, Ga., has been engaged for the meeting.
