A single-engine airplane en route to Cape Girardeau develops engine trouble, lands in a field near Oran, Mo., then takes off and makes an uneventful landing at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport; no one is injured, and there is no apparent damage to the plane.

Construction of a rail spur at the Nash Road industrial park is expected to begin soon, now that funding is in place; the city of Cape Girardeau has just received additional funding of more than $82,000 in economic development grant money from the Missouri Department of Economic Development for the rail spur project.

1963

A Texaco service station will be constructed adjacent to the Holiday Inn Motel, which has just opened at the intersection of Gordonville Road and Interstate 55; the station will be located directly west of the Holiday Inn, between the motel and the interstate highway.

A fourth attempt will be made this fall to check the erosion on the southeast bank of the Alma Schrader School yard, where water racing downhill has cut deeply into the soil; Hal B. Lehman, school director of buildings and grounds, estimates the district has already spent between $2,500 and $3,000 in trying to control the erosion and establish a grass seed bed on the bank.

1938

At a three-hour conference last night, the Cape Girardeau City Council met with architects and members of the park advisory board for the new city park, discussing the project in a detailed way; while the half-mile race track will soon be finished, the arena building -- the big monolithic structure to serve as a city auditorium -- is not nearly done.

The Rev. H.F. Schuermann of St. Mary's Catholic Church is guest speaker at the Lions Club luncheon, discussing "The House That Hitler Built"; after giving the history of Hitler's sharp rise from a failing painter to that of dictator of Germany, the priest warns the situation in central Europe is bound to lead to a terrific explosion that will again envelope the world in a great war.

1913

William Keller, the noted German clairvoyant from Chicago, is here with his wife; he can be consulted on all affairs of life at the residence at 319 Bellevue St.

L.S. Joseph and family return from an extended visit to Galveston and other Texas cities for his health; the trip was delightful, and he returns in splendid physical condition.
