The Rev. Keith C. Grams, an ordained Assemblies of God minister, celebrates his first Sunday as the newly elected pastor of First Assembly of God in Cape Girardeau; Grams, along with his wife, Millie, and two sons, Jeffry and Jeremy, came to Cape Girardeau from Rockford, Ill.

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Thomas P. Kiefer was ordained as a deacon yesterday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, Mo.; Kiefer is a 1973 graduate of Kelly High School and attends Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., where he is a third-year theology student; he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Kiefer of Chaffee.

50 years ago: April 27, 1955

Schematic drawings for the $1 million addition to Southeast Missouri Hospital have been approved by state and federal authorities and detailed plans should be ready for bids in two months to 10 weeks.

The bond election in the Jackson School District has been set for May 17; the size of the issue has been increased from $400,000 to $500,000; more classrooms would be provided in Jackson and elsewhere in the large district.

75 years ago: April 27, 1930

A board of religious education has been organized at Centenary Methodist Church for the purpose of directing the educational features of the church and Sunday school; professor L.H. Strunk, superintendent of the Sunday school, is chairman, and Rush H. Limbaugh is vice chairman; others on the board are the Rev. W.C. Ellzey, Mrs. Paul Kaiser, S.P. Dalton, the Rev. H.C. Hoy, Mrs. Arthur Schrader and Louise Pearce.

The Rev. C.D. Lathrop, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, conducts his final services for the congregation; this week he will go to Fort Smith, Ark., where he has accepted the office of rector of St. John's Church.

100 years ago: April 27, 1905

Hiram Phillips, president of the board of public improvements of St. Louis, Mo., passed through Cape Girardeau last night en route to Jackson, where he will consider the question of installing a waterworks and electric system; the residents of the county seat have decided that the time has arrived when these facilities must be had.

The United Daughters of Confederacy entertain members of the "Deestrick Skule" thespian company at Elmwood, the beautiful Houck home; about 75 are present for the evening festivities.
