25 years ago: April 22, 1984

The 48th annual Bald Knob Easter sunrise service is held in the morning at the foot of the Cross of Peace atop Bald Knob mountain northwest of Alto Pass, Ill.; the Rev. Richard L. Daniels, pastor of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Carbondale, Ill., delivers the sermon.

Two 100-year-old houses on North Pacific Street have been restored and bridged with a new, two-story structure by the owners, Judge and Mrs. A.J. Seier, to form a complex housing three retail outlets: The Party Works, Francine's Too and the House of Brides.

50 years ago: April 22, 1959

Contributions to the Retarded Children's Fund have gone over the top of the set goal, officers say in announcing that donations now total $7,610; this is $610 above the amount deemed necessary to convert the County Home into a school for retarded children of the area.

Gustav B. Margraf, a native of Cape Girardeau, has been elected to the board of directors of the Reynolds Metals Co. in Richmond, Va.; Margraf has been general solicitor for the Reynolds company since 1955.

75 years ago: April 22, 1934

A permit has been issued by city engineer E.L. Sailer to C.J. Reisenbichler to demolish an old, two-story brick dwelling on the west side of North Frederick Street, just north of Broadway, and erect a new one-story brick house on the site; the new house will have five rooms.

The Harmon Athletic Field at Chaffee, Mo., through the administration of Civil Works Administration funds, has been reconditioned so that it is possible not only to play baseball, but tennis, track and croquet matches there; the grandstand has also been rebuilt, making it possible to seat many more fans.

100 years ago: April 22, 1909

Dr. R.P. Dalton, the physician who is ministering to the ill at the quarantined orphanage here, reports to Mayor M.E. Leming that the number of smallpox patients there is declining; but a few cases of that illness, as well as measles, whooping cough, pneumonia and mumps, still exist.

S. Noce, who has a restaurant and grocery on Broadway in Cape Girardeau, will move his stock of goods to Burfordville tomorrow, where he will continue business.
