JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Public Service Commission orders the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Co. to reinstate regular service between Poplar Bluff and Chaffee, Mo.; the company went on an irregular schedule March 4.

Mary Daugherty Eaker of Cape Girardeau has been named "Mrs. Missouri" over representatives of other towns in the state; she will compete in the national finals at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in May.

75 years ago: April 22, 1932

A slash of $1 million in the assessed valuation in Cape Girardeau, affecting tax revenues of the city, isn't a cause of serious alarm to Mayor Edward L. Drum; should the valuation cut approximately that amount, about $7,400 will be lost to the city in taxes; but with a program of strict economy, the mayor believes there should be no cause for financial embarrassment to the city government.

Plans for the new school building at Oak Ridge have been submitted to the office of Charles A. Lee, state superintendent of schools, for approval.

100 years ago: April 22, 1907

Carry A. Nation, who arrived in Cape Girardeau last evening, is up early this morning and walks downtown to look around; on her way back to the St. Charles Hotel, she follows a working man into the saloon near Main and Broadway; there she upbraids the working man as he quaffs his beer and the saloon keeper as well.

Bernhard Bahn, the aged hardware merchant of Main Street in Cape Girardeau, dies suddenly at his store in the morning.
