ORAN, Mo. -- Irene Aubuchon has been named Woman of the Year from Region 7, Council of Catholic Women for title of Lay Woman of the Year; she is member of St. Ann's Sodality of Guardian Angel Parish.

Higher than average pre-enrollment at elementary schools - but one that indicates kindergarten sections are within acceptable limits - has postponed any decision by Cape Girardeau public schools that might mandate transfer of kindergarten pupils from one school to another.

New flood, caused by excessive rain in northern reaches of valley, is moving down Mississippi River, but whether it brings new high crest to Cape Girardeau remains in doubt.

Superintendent J.A. Whiteford and 95 teachers are appointed for public schools of Cape Girardeau at meeting of Central High School; Louis J. Schultz, who three months ago succeeded R.L. Davidson as principal of Central High, is reelected to that position by board.
