State College is notified by the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C., that it has been awarded a grant of $8,715 for an undergraduate research training program on campus this summer and next academic year.

Ray G. Miller, principal of Franklin School the past four years and a teacher and administrator in the Cape Girardeau school system for 10 years, has accepted a position as principal of the Goodall Elementary School in Webster Groves, Mo.

75 years ago: April 21, 1935

Easter Sunday. Commemorating the Resurrection, Cape Girardeau's Ministerial Alliance sponsors a sunrise service at Cape Rock Park; worshippers approaching the high point in the park are impressed by a 6-foot cross electrically illuminated against the dawn.

The Girl Scouts' Easter egg hunt in Fairground Park had been planned for children up to 10 years old, but turns out to be a grand scramble in which even grown-ups take part; 40 minutes before the scheduled start, an unauthorized youth in the crowd shouts, "It's time to go," and within minutes the grounds are stripped of hidden eggs and the hunt is over.

100 years ago: April 21, 1910

The Cape Girardeau School Board has re-elected all the grade school teachers of the public schools for the coming year; all principals have also been chosen; they are May Greene, L.W. Morton, E.L. Maxwell and John S. Cobb.

Wallace Bros. have begun the construction of the new county jail in Jackson and are expected to have it finished in four or five months.
