Dr. Charles Mueller, a seismologist who was a member of the U.S. response team to earthquake-devastated Armenia will be a featured speaker during the opening Tuesday of the Southeast Missouri State University Center for Earthquake Studies.

Lige Frost, the new director of parks in Missouri, visits Cape Girardeau and confers with Charles W. Boutin, former parks commission member; from here Frost leaves for Big Oak Tree State Park near East Prairie, Mo.

Reservations are being taken at Harper's Travel Service for The Missourian's second annual tour of Europe, June 13 through July 4; Paris will be the first stop in the three-week tour of seven European countries.

Confirmation services are held in the morning at the English Lutheran Church; members of the confirmation class are Corinne L. Palmer, Dorothy J. Whetson, Ruth J. Seabaugh, Welma M. Crites, Evelyn M. Hinkle, Iva E. Hahs, Atlee E. Fulbright and James W. Patrick Jr.

Palm Sunday services at Christ Evangelical Church include the confirmation of 14 boys and girls at the morning worship hour and a reunion of all former confirmation classes in the evening.

1914

The Morrison boat crew is successful in getting its barges off the sandbar on the east side of the river, taking them to a point north of here where they are pumping sand; during the winter's ice floes, the barges were dashed onto the sandbar and stranded; low water since then had made it impossible to move them.

CAIRO, Ill. -- Fourteen men escaped from the jail at Cairo last night or early this morning, including a man named Williams, who was under a sentence to be hanged in a few weeks for murder.
