Line of severe thunderstorms with powerful winds lashed parts of Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky early yesterday, causing extensive property damage; at eastern edge of Frohna, high winds tore part of roof off lumber storage shed at East Perry Lumber Co.

Southeast Missouri Business Group on Health opposes possible plan to build medical office buildings on campus of St. Francis Medical Center, contending it's bad medicine for community.

25 years ago: April 16, 1979

Hundreds of Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois families remain flooded out of their homes, and more evacuate along swollen Mississippi River, which is anticipated to crest at Cape Girardeau Wednesday.

Cape Girardeau Public Library, 57 years in same location, launches community-wide fund-raising campaign for $175,000 to furnish new $905,000 building soon to be started on new site on Clark Avenue.

50 years ago: April 16, 1954

Citywide Good Friday service, under direction of Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance, is held from noon to 3 p.m. at Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church; it is departure from customary all-city Easter sunrise service.

Considerable interior damage is done to house at 817 N. Sprigg in fire early this morning; firefighters find evidence of arson; containers of gasoline and kero-sene are in various parts of house, connected with fuses made of oil-soaked rags and cord.

75 years ago: April 16, 1929

Finance committee composed of three members of congregation was appointed last night to investigate finances of First Baptist Church and to collect all unpaid pledges in order that present indebtedness may be paid.

Revised plans for proposed storm-water sewer in business district of Cape Girar-deau were reviewed Monday by city council, but no definite action toward approval of plans was taken.
