City of Jackson announces formal opening of new sanitary landfill site about three miles southwest of city; 105-acre site was purchased last year by city from Leon A. Hennecke.

Possibilities of consolidation or annexation to combine Campster, Pecan Grove and Abernathy School districts west of Cape Girar-deau into single unit are explored by approximately 75 residents of three areas at meeting at Campster School; only decision made is to drop any further consideration of proposal for a while until those living in areas have opportunity to consider and talk over alternate possibilities.

Albert Borgfield, 78, sustains fractured hip when he falls while working in barn lot at his home near Jackson.

75 years ago: April 12, 1929

Extension of city carrier service and employment of additional part-time carrier for Cape Girardeau post office is announced by postmaster H.H. Haas; there will be nine city carrier routes instead of eight as previously.

Assistant district attorney C.J. Stattler says that within 60 days, federal government will be ready to file consideration proceedings to secure necessary land for construction of setback levee in Mississippi and New Madrid counties as proposed in Jadwin plan for flood control.
