Entries for the 1963 Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair closed at midnight; this morning Dr. E.L. Bahn Jr., director of the exhibition, reports he received 178 entries from schools in 22 district cities.

The move to weld Illmo and Scott City into a single town appears to be taking the shape of a feverish issue with all the necessary elements -- enthusiasm, high hops, skepticism, caution and controversy; skeptics say questions must be answered before they support consolidation, pointing to 1960 when Illmo didn't choose to join Fornfelt and Ancell in a merger.

1938

The Rev. Don E. Schooler, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, who has been ill, is back in his pulpit in the morning; the subject of his sermon is "The Man Who Honestly Doubts."

The Rev. Melvin Reichert of Maywood, Ill., who has been named pastor of the First English Lutheran Church, conducts services here; he will move to Cape Girardeau late in the spring, when he completes his course of study at the Lutheran seminary at Maywood.

1913

Roy Martin, a young carpenter working on the new Idan-Ha Hotel building, falls from the fifth floor while at work; had it not been for an electric light wire, which he catches, he would have been killed instantly; he's back at his labors again in 15 minutes.

Dr. Ivan Lee Holt, the Revs. J.S. Murtaugh and F.Y. Campbell, Thomas M. Williams and J. Henry Caruthers have been appointed by commercial club president D.A. Glenn as delegates to the Fourth American Peace Conference, to be held in May in St. Louis.
