Riverboat gaming development in downtown Cape Girardeau wouldn't overwhelm city streets with traffic, according to preliminary traffic study conducted by St. Louis firm for Boyd Gaming Corp.; report is effort to identify potential changes in traffic conditions that could occur and to outline scope of more thorough traffic study that could come later.
Circuit Judge John Grim, whose term expires at end of this year, has an-nounced he will file for full six-year term this week in 32nd District of Cape Girardeau, Bollinger and Perry counties.

Millersville man is in critical condition at local hospital, severely burned from waist upward, and his wife is suffering from painfully burned hands and arms, sustained when their two-story, four-room house was destroyed by fire; Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Jones are brought to Southeast Missouri Hospital by neighbors; neither of their children -- Bobby, 6, and Billy, 8 -- are injured.
Stern warning against vandalism and misdemeanors on part of youngsters, including those in Cape Girardeau for state basketball tournament, is issued by police department; announcement is brought about by outbreak of vandalism that has been traced in many cases to out-of-town pupils; most flagrant action was unprovoked attack on Webster Groves boy in lobby of Idan-Ha Hotel.

George E. Seibert is reappointed county health officer by county court, being selected from list of six applicants; month ago, judges W.J. Kies and Charles Sievers deadlocked on appointment, and action was delayed.
CHARLESTON, Mo. -- With Herbert Hoover as president, Missouri Flood Control Association plans to carry to him its appeal for review of Jadwin plan for control of floodwaters of Mississippi River; association succeeds original Anti-Jadwin Flood Control Association; it is working rapidly because plans for gigantic spillway in Mississippi and New Madrid counties are being rushed.
