Since Cape Girardeau firefighters assumed added responsibility of responding to medical calls in late May, they have relied upon donations to purchase state of art medical equipment to use in field; this week, department received two combination pulse and blood oxygen monitors, purchased with funds raised by public education programming and CPR and first aid classes.

Four representatives of federal government's General Services Administration are in Cape Girardeau to perform preliminary work toward site selection for new federal courthouse.

25 years ago: March 4, 1979

Southeast Missouri Transportation Service, which provides transportation services for nearly 800 elderly and handicapped Cape Girardeau County residents, was almost forced to cease operations last week because of funding; it was announced yesterday that verbal commitment had been made by Gov. Joseph P. Teasdale and several Southeast Missouri legislators to obtain emergency funding for service.

Cape Girardeau police have announced policy on handling bad check complaints which allows check writer 10 days after being notified by business to repay the check.

Edmundson drive-in theaters at Jackson and at Advance are sold to two Jackson residents, Harry McDowell and J.C. Crites; Mr. and Mrs. John Edmundson will continue to operate other theater they own, the Edmundson drive-in at Bloomfield.

Rain, starting yesterday and continuing early today, adds to poor condition of roads in Southeast Missouri.

Steamer Cape Girardeau is scheduled to arrive here early Wednesday morning on its first regular trip of season from St. Louis; it will make return trip to St. Louis at 9 a.m., eliminating run to Commerce and Thebes, Ill.
