ALTO PASS, Ill. -- Continuing a tradition that began 50 years ago, an Easter sunrise service is held at Alto Pass, site of the Bald Knob Cross of Peace, which was completed in 1963; guest speaker is the Rev. A. VanHoose, who was also the guest speaker at the 1940 Easter service.
Centenary United Methodist Church holds two special services Easter Sunday; Nancy Robinson performs a solo at the 8:15 a.m. service; at the following service, a string quartet composed of T. Donley Smith, Margaret Thomas, Melvin Gilhaus Jr. and Tarina Kang performs.
The school future of the Pipeline Village area, on Highway 34 west of Gravel Hill, will be determined at the school district elections on Tuesday; the Jackson School District in Cape Girardeau County will vote to annex the village sector, with a high assessed valuation, to the Jackson-centered district, and in Bollinger County District (Woodland) R-4 will vote not to change the district boundaries, which would mean the village sector would remain with the Bollinger school district.
CAIRO, Ill. -- Leo C. Schultz, a native of Cape Girardeau and twin of the superintendent of schools there, Louis J. Schultz, has announced his retirement as superintendent of the public school system here.
