The Rt. Rev. William A. Jones, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri, visits Christ Episcopal Church and takes part in Palm Sunday services.

Cape Girardeau County Assessor Jerry L. Reynolds must submit a detailed plan to the state tax commission by June 2, explaining how to accomplish and finance reassessment in the county.

50 years ago: March 30, 1955

Farmers & Merchants Bank expects to raze two frame dwellings west of the bank on Good Hope Street in the next two weeks; the terraces on which they rest will be brought to street level, and the land will be turned into a parking lot for the bank's customers.

Burl R. Statler was recently promoted from police sergeant to captain and now serves as night captain, in charge of all Cape Girardeau police activities during the 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift.

75 years ago: March 30, 1930

Formal dedication service is held for the new $50,000 Christ Evangelical Church at Merriwether and South Ellis streets; the dedication prayer is offered by the pastor, the Rev. Reinhart Lehmann, and the sermon is delivered by the Rev. Otto Kienker of St. Louis.

Concrete for the foundation of the annex to the Red Star Baptist Church was poured Friday; the new addition will slightly increase the seating capacity of the auditorium, which, when completed, will seat about 400 people.

100 years ago: March 30, 1905

The directors of the soap factory have made Ed Sutton manager, and the operation is set to open for business next week.

The foundation is being put in for Stein & Lance flour mill's big steel elevator on Broadway.
