Mississippi River continues its rise on way to predicted 39.5 foot crest on Sunday at Cape Girardeau; water is in streets of Thebes, Ill., causing post office to shift its location temporarily to old courthouse and causing evacuation of some homes.

Possibility of replacing or repairing Southeast Missouri State University bubble structure which collapsed under weight of Feb. 25 blizzard and plans for renovation of university-owned airplane are both given attention of university's board of regents.

50 years ago: March 30, 1954

Conversion of "Little Inch" pipeline from natural gas to petroleum products service and construction of large tank terminal on Mississippi River near Cape Girardeau are being proposed by Texas Eastern Transmission Corp., operator of parallel "Inch" pipelines; "Big Inch" line would continue to be used to transport natural gas from Texas to eastern seaboard and points in between.

Amended petitions, each containing about 400 names, are filed at circuit clerk's office asking recall from office of Mayor Manning P. Greer and Fire and Health Commissioner Roy Smith.

75 years ago: March 30, 1929

Albert P. Rueseler, head of Rueseler Motor Co., is new president of Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce; he succeeds A.W. Harrison, who was selected as first vice president; Robert Vogelsang was elected treasurer, and W.F.D. Batjer was re-appointed secretary.

Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., grocery chain store group, is negotiating for lease on McBride building at 420 Broadway; building is occupied by Behrens Motor Co., which has lease expiring in July.
