50 years ago: March 26, 1957

Cape Girardeau's efforts to require the federal government to fulfill the same obligations for re-exchange of Courthouse Park and post office properties that the government requires the city to meet has been rejected by the General Services Administration; the federal government is requiring the city to provide a title to the post office building free of encumbrances of any kind, as well as abstracts to the property and any other necessary instruments.

Another national sorority chapter -- Delta Delta Delta -- has been instituted on Southeast Missouri State College.

75 years ago: March 26, 1932

Many tons of dirt are being taken from a plot of ground owned by Albert Haman near his gasoline service station on Highway 61 at the west edge of Cape Girardeau to be used in filling a number of places; a fleet of trucks and men operating them have been busy taking the dirt to the new memorial building, the new E.P. Masters residence on West Broadway and other places.

Emmett Kelly has a permit to erect a one-story brick residence in the 1500 block of Themis Street in Cape Girardeau; A.H. Gerhardt has the contract for the five-room house, and Jules Reither, local architect, designed it.

100 years ago: March 26, 1907

Sunday evening, the Millersville baseball players met at Stearns' field and organized; manager of the team is James A. Arnold; players are Ernest L. Miller, captain; C.E. Miller, E. Fulbright, A. Caldwell, P. Stearns, E. Caldwell, F. Harris, J. Nunn, J. Arnold, and W. McLane.

Work is being rushed on the Dreamland Theater on Main street in Cape Girardeau; the old front of the building has been taken out, and the interior is being transformed into a regular theater, with its stage, opera chairs, raised floor, dozens of electric lights, etc.
