The top two winners in the 33rd annual Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair, held this week at Southeast Missouri State University, are Nia Summit and Jeanna Clark, both students of science instructor David Walls at the South Pemiscot County High School at Steele, Mo.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Southeast Missouri State University basketball Indians see their dream of a national championship fall short, as they lose to North Carolina Central, 73-46, in the Division II title game; the Indians cap a tremendous season by placing second in the nation.
Results of a survey conducted by State College show that high schools in Southeast Missouri will graduate 23.7 percent more pupils this year than in 1963; the survey covers all high schools in the 23-county service area of the college, including St. Louis city and St. Louis County.
The Jackson Industrial Development Co. of the Chamber of Commerce will accept bids for the removal of three Jackson houses to make room for the expansion of International Shoe Co.; the houses are those of Martin Rapp and Mrs. Ora Kirkpatrick on East Main Street and Howard LaChance on Georgia Street.
The Cape Girardeau City Council may consider passage soon of a revised milk ordinance; the ordinance would modernize milk control regulations and would tighten some phases of milk handling, looking to a safer milk supply.
Workers complete installing new awnings at the Walther Furniture Co. store; the brown and orange striped awning over the Broadway side is 75 feet long, while the Middle Street side is nearly 30 feet.
Seven bids have been placed with architect W.E. Parlow for the building of Washington School in the far north end of the city; placing bids for the work were Edward F. Regenhardt, Vogelsang Brothers, W.W. Taylor, G.W. Vaughn, C.J. Reisenbichler, J.W. Gerhardt and the Sutherland Construction Co. of St. Louis.
Rose Uhl, who for several years has been connected with the Bergmann-Bartels store, has resigned her position to accept a similar one with the Buckner-Ragsdale store.
