Cape Girardeau police officers are getting some firearms flexibility; soon, officers will be permitted to carry personal semi-automatic pistols instead of the service revolvers they now carry.

The congregation of First Presbyterian Church yesterday voted approval of a proposal submitted by a building study committee to start a capital funds campaign to raise $325,000 for construction of a new church; the present stone church, at the southeast corner of Lorimier Street and Broadway, will be razed to make way for a Gothic-style church.

Lorimier School was burglarized some time over the weekend; the gymnasium door leading to the building was broken open, indicating someone could have be in the gym when it was locked; stolen were candy and a few ice cream bars.

Roadside planting along U.S. 61 between Cape Girardeau and Jackson should be finished within a few weeks; a force of men, under the direction of Hillard Brewster, field horticulturist for the State Highway Department, are busy planting between 8,000 and 9,000 rose bushes, as well as other shrubs and trees.

Colby L. Cherry of Cape Girardeau has been elected president of Unit G, Region 5 of the Florists Telegraph Delivery Association.

Judge R.G. Ranney decides the suit for injunction brought by Mrs. Hattie Osterloh against the Frisco Railroad in favor of the railway; Osterloh had asked the court to stop the Frisco and its contractor from tearing away the large amount of soil and rock east of her home on Aquamsi Street.

KELSO, Mo. -- Peter Calliotte has installed a bowling alley in Kern Hall, and the muscles of the town's male residents are being seriously taxed.
