A junior from Poplar Bluff, Mo., winning for the second year in a row, and a senior from Steele, Mo., took top honors in the 29th annual Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair that ended yesterday; the major awards went to Karen Stoll and Wende Hoskins.

Eggimann Feed & Produce, 514 Independence St., has been purchased by Mr. and Mrs. H.C. "Hank" Mellone of Cape Girardeau; the purchase was made from the estate of the late A.C. "Doc" Brase and Gladys Cain, who owned a fourth of the business.

50 years ago: March 23, 1960

The Cape Girardeau Breakfast Optimist Club's past president's award has been given to Vinson Rueseler, who is head of the Rueseler Motor Co. and retiring president of the Chamber of Commerce.

Young science enthusiasts from throughout the district -- 197 in the advance registration -- will be here Tuesday for the opening of the fourth annual Southeast Missouri Regional District Fair at Houck Field House; director of the fair is Stanley G. Diehl of the State College science faculty.

75 years ago: March 23, 1935

The dissolution of School District No. 4, known as Buckeye, has been proposed; it is proposed to vote on the dissolution and its division among four districts -- Ole Appleton, Applecreek Valley, Liberty No. 1 and Shawneetown.

The Board of Adjustment has granted a permit to the Marquette Oil Co. to build a bulk gasoline and motor oil storage plant on the east side of Frederick Street, between Independence and Merriwether streets; the same firm applies for a permit to build a gasoline filling station at the northwest corner of Broadway and Frederick.

100 years ago: March 23, 1910

Professor E.A. Cockefair, head of the department of agriculture in the State Normal School, went to St. Louis yesterday and purchased the third horse for use on the Normal School farm, returning last night; next week he plans to start work on three new tennis courts; this will make six courts on the campus.

The engineers are setting the stakes on Independence Street; as soon as the crushed rock is delivered, the Kettle River Quarries workers will begin putting down the creosoted wood paving.
