The Jackson Industrial Development Corp., has purchased 12 acres for an industrial site from Dr. D.E. Crites; the parcel is north of the Park View Theater.

Thirty-two more young men from Cape Girardeau County will be accepted for enrollment in Conservation Corps camps; applicants must be unmarried and 18 to 25 years old.

The Cape Girardeau County Court issues an order requesting representatives of the two major political parties meet to discuss changing boundary lines of the present voting precincts and recommend the elimination of 10 of the 40 voting precincts in the county.

100 years ago: March 23, 1909

The debate to over a license for a new saloon on Broadway ended in Jackson yesterday when the County Court granted the license to Ed Bysingerst; he will open a saloon in the corner room under the new Idan-ha Hotel; there apparently was no personal feeling against Bysingerst in the dispute.

Two workers are injured while tearing down the walls of the old courthouse at Jackson; several are on top of a brick arch at work when, without warning, it collapses, carrying the men down with the huge mass of bricks and mortar; Charles Werner and Charles Webb are hurt.
