Jackson city landfill, which has generated considerable controversy and lawsuit by property owners living near facility, is tentatively scheduled to close April 8; unexpected announcement was made near end of Monday's Jackson Board of Aldermen meeting by city attorney David Beeson.

Manner in which Cape Girardeau businessman Sydney Pollack and Sikeston lawyer Kenneth Dement were nominated for Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents Wednesday brings angry reaction from Sen. John C. Dennis against Gov. Joseph P. Teasdale; Dennis says he wasn't consulted about appointments.

Sale of 3.83 acres by state to city of Cape Girardeau for $265,000 as site for new police-fire complex has been approved by Missouri Highway Commission; tract is former site of highway department maintenance facility.

Men and women of Cape Girardeau County who served during Korean War, 1,081 of them, are shown appreciation of community in impressive ceremony at Houck Field House; after address by Truman C. Wold, national vice-commander of American Legion, H.O. Grauel presents to Dennis Lottes, wounded veteran of Korean conflict, certificate commemorating his service; certificates will be sent to each veteran.

Three cypress trees are planted on grounds of new Central High School by Cape Girardeau Garden Club as memorial to club's deceased members.

Members of Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, working in pairs, begin soliciting for sale of $30,000 stock in Barnes Dairy Products Co., which is required for establishment by company of milk condensery in Cape Girardeau.

Construction work on building of new Missouri Pacific Railroad line from Thebes Bridge to Cape Girardeau is under way on section of line near Illmo; one of big projects to be undertaken in construction work will be building of bridge over Diversion Channel.
