25 years ago: March 21, 1982

After four years of living and studying in Rome, the Rev. David Hulshof has returned to Southeast Missouri to serve in his home diocese; Hulshof is preaching and teaching, and doing all the services delegated to a deacon, at St. Mary's Parish in Cape Girardeau; he will be ordained a priest April 18 at his home parish of St. Eustacius in Portageville, Mo.

Former pastors of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Revs. Paul H. Jilg and Oscar A. Gerkin, will return to Cape Girardeau May 2 to participate in the dedication of the new Trinity Church.

50 years ago: March 21, 1957

Testimony is completed in the morning in the Public Service Commission's hearing in Common Pleas Court on the abandonment of regular mixed train service between Chaffee and Poplar Bluff, Mo., by the Frisco Railroad; Frisco contends business doesn't justify regular service on the segment of the Hoxie branch line.

Arriving early for events, hundreds of high school pupils are in Cape Girar-deau for the annual music contests, first of a series of competitive scholastic events at State College which will continue each weekend for five weeks.

75 years ago: March 21, 1932

Cape Girardeau voters will go to the polls tomorrow in the biennial runoff election to nominate two candidates for mayor and six for commissioner to participate two weeks hence in the general election, when four city officials will be chosen; there are five mayoral candidates and 34 for commissioner.

Jewish residents of Cape Girardeau observe Purim, the Feast of Esther, with a special evening service in Houck Field House; the Book of Esther is read by J. Wolf.

100 years ago: March 21, 1907

There was a little activity shown this week in the real estate business; Adolph Kraft turned over a half interest in a Haarig lot to F.H. Kraft for $3,800; the purchase recently made by I. Ben Miller on Broadway was registered this week; and Phillips & Bartels purchased a lot in the west end from Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Frueh for $3,000.

Albert Spence, a member of the cross country squad at the Normal School, fell while running yesterday and suffered a fracture of the left collar bone.
