A group of about 40 black Southeast Missouri State University students met with university officials yesterday to discuss a number of concerns, both on and off campus, which relate to black students; the meeting stems from concerns raised earlier during a Black History Month event.
City officials are considering setting up a computerized weather information system at the municipal airport to fill the void left by the closing of the flight service station 16 months ago.
A.C. Brase is renamed a commissioner of the Cape Special Road District by the County Court; Brase's term expired in February, and he is reappointed to another three-year term.
Clara Drew Miller, who has been a guiding force in music in Cape Girardeau for many years, is honored by the Community Concerts Association at the annual dinner launching the membership campaign; president Robert O. Hirsch presents Miller with a corsage and speaks of her active service throughout the 30 years the association has been in the community.
Fulton White and Elmer Palsgrove purchase the West End Fuel Co. from G.W. Cross; they will maintain the fuel business in the same location, 1400 Independence St., having leased all but one room, where Cross will keep an office; Palsgrove and White will retail coal and will maintain a delivery service.
Cape Neon Sign Co. has obtained permits for two 3-foot electric signs, each to cost approximately $50; one will be for the Varsity Confectionery at Pacific Street and Broadway and the other for the South End Tavern on South Sprigg Street.
Dr. R.P. Dalton, the well-known physician with offices in the Houck Building on Main Street, will open a fine new drugstore soon in the Rodney Whitelaw building, on the corner of Broadway and Main Street, that was recently vacated by the Boston grocery store.
Sam Cannon, who has been spending the winter here with his daughter, Mrs. Al Kimmich, returned to his home in Illmo yesterday; he is assistant yardmaster of the Cotton Belt Railroad in that town.
