While Girardeans admire the one to two inches of wet snow draped on tree limbs and bushes in the morning, residents in north central Arkansas are digging out from under one to two feet of snow; once again, Cape Girardeau escapes the brunt of a major winter storm.

The Missouri Highway and Transportation Department has initiated a public notification procedure in conjunction with a plan to replace the Highway 25 bridge over the Diversion Channel, and to improve the highway between Dutchtown and Blomeyer, Mo.

1963

Recovery from the bristling blast of wind and rain that roared through the middle of Cape Girardeau on Saturday afternoon is well underway, with telephone and power service generally restored, littered streets being cleared and damaged buildings at least temporarily covered.

A proposal to rezone a section of Boulevard Heights collides with formidable opposition at the city council meeting; the Girardeau Development Co., seeking to develop Camelot Terrace in the southwestern part of the city, is asking the rezoning of 54 of its lots to multifamily dwellings.

1938

A source to supply the native limestone needed for the construction of the new library and museum at the Teachers College is expected to be selected in a few days; one source being seriously considered is the north bluff overlooking Houck Field Stadium.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Ross, who for the last 10 years have conducted a women's clothing store at Duquoin, Ill., open the Smart Shop at 120 N. Main St. here.

1913

A.N. Tinsley, manager of the water and light plant, returns from an extended trip through the East hunting for streetcars to replace those that burned here; he has located four cars that can be rebuilt in short order; he'll go to Chicago next week to buy them and have the remodeling started.

Saint Francis Hospital has purchased the Joe Haas property at the corner of Good Hope and Pacific streets; it will be the site for the new hospital to be built this year; it is said Haas traded this land for the present hospital property at William and Sprigg streets.
